THE FULL RANGE

Introduction

Oak logs - mostly French -, are sawed at the stave-mill into stave-woods and then weathered, dependant on the climatic conditions, for 24 to 36 months.
Then, each stave takes its place in the composition of a whole range of barrels in the hands skilled of a cooper and his specialized tools

Not only does the Billon Cooperage supply some of the greatest wineris in France, But it also markets its barrels abroad : United States, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, south Africa, Argentina, New Zealand, Australia...
To meet this demand, the Billon Cooperage has selected a whole rangeof barrels, from 114L to 700L, so that each country, each wine growing region and each wine can find a suitable barrel.

Barrels (Burgundy / Bordeaux)

The Burgundy barrel (228 L) has made the reputation of Burgundy for a long time. Banded only with galvanised steel hoops or both with galvanised steel and chestnut wood hoops, it represents 70% of the company's production.
As for the Bordeaux barrel (225 L), it features a more slender and tighter bilge. It is generally banded with galvanised steel.

Large volume barrels

Each wine growing region and each wine grower has its own winemaking preferences, in particular as regards wine growing. The 300L barrel, for example, which is very popular in the Loire region, in Languedoc-Roussillon and Côte du Rhône, is experiencing a rapid spread in many regions.
On this subject, Billon Cooperage is a specialist : it offers availability in several sizes (300 L, 350 L, 400 L, 450 L, 500 L, 600 L, 700 L). Large volume barrels can be made in two thicknesses according to the customer's preference (classic 30 m/m or thick 45 m/m).
